Getting Started
-
Yes. And you are exactly who I built these programs for. Many of the women who come to me have never set foot in a gym or picked up a weight. My programs — especially the 8-Week Strength Training Program for Women Over 45 and Fit 4 U — are designed as true beginner starting points. Every movement is explained, every session is coached, and modifications are always available. The only thing you need to start is the decision to show up.
-
No. There is no age at which strength training stops working. In fact, the older you are, the more important it becomes. After 45, we naturally start losing muscle mass — a process called sarcopenia — which slows your metabolism, weakens your bones, and makes everyday life harder. Strength training directly reverses that process. Your body responds to it at any age. I have seen women in their 60s and 70s build real, measurable strength from scratch. It is never too late.
-
The short answer is: fill out the form and I will help you figure it out. But here is a quick guide. If you are a complete beginner who wants to go at your own pace, start with Fit 4 U. If you want live group workouts and community accountability from home, Fit 4 Life is the right fit. If you want a fully customized plan with 1-on-1 coaching, nutrition guidance, and weekly calls, Built 2 Last is for you. If you are in the Duluth area and want to train in person, I have four options at my studio. Not sure? Just reach out and we will figure it out together.
-
For Fit 4 Life and Fit 4 U, you can purchase and get started online right away with no consultation needed. For Built 2 Last and all in-person training options, I ask you to fill out an intake form first so we can have a real conversation about your goals and make sure the program is the right fit for you.
-
That is actually the most common starting point for women who come to me. Most fitness programs were not built for pre-menopausal and menopausal women over 45, they were built for a younger demographic and recycled without adjustment. If you have done everything right and still felt like nothing was working, the problem was the program, not you. My approach is different because it starts with how your body actually works right now.

Fit 4 Life is month-to-month with no contract. You can cancel at any time. Fit 4 U is a one-time purchase for the full 12-week program. Built 2 Last runs on a 3-month commitment because real results take time and the coaching relationship needs that runway to deliver meaningful change. In-person programs are sold in session packages or 8-week blocks.
-
Built 2 Last clients receive a fully custom program, so adding another program on top of that is not necessary, everything is already tailored to you. Some women choose to combine Fit 4 Life with another program for extra community support, but I recommend talking to me first so we can make sure the workload makes sense for your body and your schedule.

Online Training
-
It depends on the program. Fit 4 Life gives you access to live group workouts and a full on-demand session library, you join the live sessions or pull up a recorded workout whenever it works for you. Built 2 Last is fully personalized: I build your custom program, we connect weekly on Zoom, and you have my direct number for questions between sessions. Fit 4 U is self-paced, you work through 12 weeks of structured workouts on your own schedule with nutrition guidance and a private community alongside you.
-
Minimal. Fit 4 Life requires a step-up, a stability ball, and a set of dumbbells. Fit 4 U uses resistance bands, dumbbells, and a physioball. Built 2 Last is customized to whatever equipment you have access to, whether that is a home gym, a few dumbbells, or a gym membership. None of the online programs require expensive machines or a dedicated workout space.
-
Every live session is recorded and added to the on-demand library immediately after it ends. You never lose access to a workout because of a schedule conflict. Train early, train late, train on weekends, the library is always there.
-
You will receive login details by email after purchase. Everything is accessible through the member portal on the website. If you have any trouble getting started, reach out and I will get it sorted right away.
-
Yes. All online programs are designed for flexibility. Fit 4 Life has on-demand access so you can train from a hotel room. Fit 4 U is fully self-paced. Built 2 Last programs are built around your equipment access, so we account for travel from the start.

This is one of the most common things women ask me before starting, and I want to be direct about it: no. My studio is not a big-box gym. It is a small, coached environment where every woman in the room is on the same journey. There is no judgment, no comparison, and no expectation that you already know what you are doing. Most women tell me they wish they had started sooner.
-
Comfortable workout clothes and supportive athletic shoes. Bring water. Everything else is provided including guidance, instruction, and coaching from me.
Fitness for Women Over 45
-
After 45, women begin losing muscle mass at an accelerating rate, a process that speeds up significantly with the hormonal changes of perimenopause and menopause. Losing muscle slows your metabolism, weakens your bones, affects your balance and stability, and makes everyday activities harder over time. Strength training directly counters all of that. It builds and preserves lean muscle, protects bone density, supports a healthy metabolism, and keeps you physically capable for life. It is the single most important thing you can do for your long-term health after 45.
-
Compound strength movements — exercises that work multiple muscle groups at once — are the foundation. Things like squats, hinges, presses, and rows. Combined with balance work and core stability, these build functional strength that shows up not just in the gym but in everything you do. The specific exercises I program always account for your individual joints, history, and current level. There is no one-size-fits-all answer, which is why having a coach matters.
-
Most women over 45 do well with 3 to 5 sessions per week, combining strength training with some lower-intensity movement like walking. More is not always better — recovery is part of the process. In my programs, the schedule is built in so you do not have to figure this out on your own.
-
Both have a place, but strength training is the priority, especially after 45. Cardio supports heart health and endurance, and low-impact options like walking, cycling, and swimming are great additions. But cardio alone will not preserve your muscle, protect your bone density, or keep your metabolism healthy the way strength training does. In my programs, we combine both in a way that supports your body without overloading it.
-
Yes. Joint pain is one of the most common things I work around with clients, and the right strength training actually helps. Building muscle around your joints supports and protects them. The key is working with appropriate load, good form, and movements that do not aggravate existing issues. In Built 2 Last and private in-person training, your program is built specifically around your limitations. In group settings, modifications are always available.
-
Most women start noticing changes in how they feel — more energy, less stiffness, better sleep — within the first few weeks. Visible physical changes typically start showing up between 6 and 12 weeks of consistent training. The scale is often the last thing to move, and it is also the least useful measure of what is actually happening. Body composition, strength, and how your clothes fit are better indicators of real progress.
Nutrition and Menopause
-
No strict diet required. What I focus on with nutrition is building habits that support your training and your hormones, primarily making sure you are eating enough protein, building balanced meals, and not undereating. The women who have been told to eat less and exercise more for years are often the ones whose metabolism is most damaged by the time they come to me. My approach is the opposite of that.
-
Most women over 45 are significantly under-eating protein. A general starting target is around 0.7 to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight per day, more than most women think is necessary, and far more than the average American diet provides. Getting enough protein is one of the single biggest levers for body composition, muscle maintenance, and metabolic health. We work on this together inside all coaching programs.
-
Yes. This is one of the most important things I tell my clients: the scale is not the whole story. When you are strength training and eating well, your body is often building muscle at the same time it is losing fat. Those two things can offset each other on the scale while your body composition — how much of you is muscle versus fat — is changing significantly. Measurements, how your clothes fit, and how you feel are far better indicators of progress than the number on the scale.
-
Perimenopause and menopause change how your body stores fat, how it holds onto muscle, and how it responds to the eating and exercise habits that may have worked before. My approach is built specifically around these hormonal realities, not borrowed from a program designed for younger women. I have been through menopause myself. I coach around it every day. The combination of progressive strength training and adequate nutrition is what actually works for women at this stage of life. Not less food. Not more cardio. Muscle and nourishment.
-
A light meal or snack containing some protein and carbohydrates before your workout supports energy and performance. After your workout, eating within an hour or two — especially a protein-rich meal — supports muscle recovery and repair. You do not need a complicated pre- and post-workout protocol. Consistent, balanced eating throughout the day makes more difference than any specific timing trick.
-
It can. Alcohol interferes with muscle protein synthesis, disrupts sleep quality, and can affect hormone levels, all things that matter for body composition and recovery. An occasional drink is unlikely to derail your progress, but regular alcohol consumption does make the process harder, especially when it comes to fat loss. This is something we can address practically and without judgment inside coaching.
GLP-1 Medications
-
Yes, and I am glad you are asking. GLP-1 medications support weight loss, but research shows that without structured strength training alongside them, a significant portion of that weight loss can come from muscle rather than fat. Losing muscle on GLP-1 medications slows your metabolism, weakens your body, and makes keeping the weight off much harder after you stop the medication. Fit 4 U was built specifically to prevent this, it combines progressive strength training with protein-focused nutrition guidance to protect your lean muscle throughout the weight loss process.
-
Yes. All of my programs include strength training, which is beneficial for anyone on a GLP-1 medication. Fit 4 U is the most specifically designed for this situation, but Built 2 Last is also an excellent option if you want a fully customized plan that accounts for your medication and your individual goals.
-
Combining GLP-1 medications with regular strength training and appropriate nutrition consistently produces better body composition outcomes than medication alone. Exercise helps preserve muscle, improve insulin sensitivity, and support your metabolism in ways the medication alone cannot. They work together, which is exactly the point of Fit 4 U.
-
Absolutely. Fit 4 U is a weight loss program first. The GLP-1 component is a strong secondary angle because so many women in this space are using those medications, but the program works the same way for anyone who wants to lose fat while protecting their muscle. The principles — strength training, high protein, progressive programming — apply regardless of whether you are on medication.
